How To Catch Some Sleep While On The Road

Anyone who has ever driven a long distance all at once has found that it can sometimes become difficult to stay awake. Plenty of people encounter such tiredness and decide that they will just “push through” until they reach their destination, but it has actually been proven that driving while extremely tired is nearly as dangerous as drunken driving. A short nap – even just thirty minutes or so – can go a long way in helping to keep you awake. And since you probably do not want to get a hotel room for a simple thirty minute nap, here are some places to keep in mind for you to pull over and stop. You might receive a knock on your window from a police officer in one of these spots, but once you explain what you are doing, they will commend you and leave you at peace.

Rest stops are some of the best places to get a bit of sleep while on the road. Of course, rest stops can be quite different from one another depending on what state you are in. But in most states, you will find that rest stops are restful and quiet. Be careful, however, as you might not want to sleep at a rest stop during the night. Those rest stops that are secluded and quiet can become dangerous after dark. During the day, however, rest stops are safe, pleasant, and a great place for sleep.

Another great place for sleep is travel plaza parking lots. These parking lots are usually large enough for you to find a quiet corner, away from all the traffic that is buzzing in and out. Set an alarm, lean back in your chair, and get a good nap in! These places are also great, and quite safe, to sleep at during the night.

Finally, if it is nighttime and you cannot find a travel plaza nearby, consider sleeping in a hotel parking lot. No one is likely to bother you in such places, as there are so many cars around you, and you can get some good sleep and feel rested to get back on the road.

Even though it might seem like a bit of a hassle to find a place to nap during your road trip, it will keep you refreshed, and it will keep both yourself and other drivers safe!
